Developing public transport is rapidly going on in Tehran despite many problems and based on figures, 11 million passengers use public transportation, at least, for half an hour per day.

Tehran SAMA quoted Ja'far Hashemi Tashakkori, deputy mayor, as saying that Tehran public transport carries 11 million passengers per day and each day, every citizen uses public transportation for, at least, 30 minutes.

He added that Tehran urban managers are trying to promote Tehran Municipality to a social and cultural institution and this needs cultural attitude among those managers. As a result, cultural studies have become a main principle in all civil projects. He said culture supplements executive activities of Tehran Municipality.

According to available information, 250 million travels take place in Tehran per year, one-third of which is done through bus terminals. There are also 80,000 taxis in the city, carrying 4.5 million passengers per day.
