Active participation of Tehran Municipality in programs of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) has been appreciated by its members who have chosen the Tehran Municipality as head of UCLG’s Middle East Health Committee.

Mehdi Golmakani, Tehran Municipality’s director general for health, told Tehran SAMA that the first session of Middle East Health Committee of UCLG was held on May 7 in Istanbul in which Tehran Municipality’s health department was selected deputy head of Middle East Health Committee.

He added that the selection was due to Tehran Municipality’s experiences in social health, launching health houses and implementing a plan for measuring justice in the city. The session was attended by representatives from China, Britain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Palestine, and Cameroon.

Health management in disasters, health of senior citizens and persons with disabilities, nutrition and physical mobility, drug abuse control, reducing infant mortality and primary health care were major topics discussed by the participants.
