The first festival of city theater wrapped up in Tehran one week after it was launched by Tehran Municipality Cultural and Arts Organization.


According to Shahrnevesht, the first festival of city theater was held on May 5-13 at Andisheh, Arasbaran, Omid, Bahman, Khavaran, Shafaq, and Golestan cultural complexes as well as Mowlavi theater center. The closing ceremony was held on May 13 attended by a number of artists as well as Amir Khorakian, head of Tehran Municipality Cultural and Arts Organization. Tribute was paid to pioneer stage actors, Hossein Moheb-Ahari and Farhad Khosravifar.

Some 504 works were sent to the festival of which 135 were chosen in the first stage and were later filtered to 54 works in the final stage.

Shahram Karami, secretary of the conference noted that the event was an opportunity for cultural complexes to get active in stage plays.

Amir Khorakian, head of Tehran Municipality Cultural and Arts Organization, stated that stage plays have a high capacity for reflecting urban concerns and can work to promote urban culture and change people’s lifestyle.

The first one hundred participants were then introduced and tributes were paid to pioneer stage actors, Hossein Moheb-Ahari and Farhad Khosravifar in presence of Reza Babak and a number of Iran's stage dignitaries.
