Tehran Mayor Reelected UCLG Vice President

Rabat, Morocco, was host to the fourth United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) World Conference recently. In this session, Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf was unanimously elected the UCLG Vice President for a period of three years.


According to Tehran SAMA, Namdar Sedaqat Public Relations and International Affairs Director General of Tehran Municipality said: "In the fourth conference of the United Cities and Local Governments which was held in Rabat, Morocco, in addition to the election of heads of the organization, the most important issues of the world cities were discussed and planning was made for such issues within the framework of common cooperation."

Sedaqat attended the conference as Tehran representative. Pointing to the process of re-election of Tehran mayor he said: "In the text of speeches of world mayors and urban managers the constructive role of Tehran had been underlined in advancement of the targets of the Asian Mayors Forum. Then Dr. Ghalibaf was once again unanimously elected for a period of three years as UCLG Vice President."

Sedaqat added: "Today Tehran is one of the most famous cities in the world and has been turned into one of the most active and basic elements of international institutions of urban management. Currently chairmanship of West Asian section of UCLG, membership in the board of directors and executives of different international associations such as the Association of Islamic Mayors, UCLG, and permanent secretariat and secretary general of the Asian Mayors Forum is administered by Tehran. It could be said that Tehran is playing the role in all important international urban associations."

According to the report election of Tehran mayor took place at a time when he was not present in the Rabat conference due to busy schedule. Meanwhile, Josep Roig, Secretary General of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and some other world urban officials after the Rabat session in a message congratulated Dr. Ghalibaf on his reelection as the UCLG Vice president.
