Tehran is hosting the autumnal festival at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Grand Prayer Grounds (Mosalla) from October 27 to November 6 to promote consumption of fruit particularly pomegranate.

The nutrient dense, antioxidant rich fruit, grows in the gardens of paradise, according to the Qur'an, and also has been revered as a symbol of health, fertility and eternal life in writings and artifacts of many cultures and religions.

Indigenous to Iran, pomegranate is a symbol of fertility in ancient Persian culture and is still dearly cherished by Iranians today.

Pomegranate juice and paste have a role in some Iranian dishes. Pomegranate skins have historically been used as well to color wool and silk in the carpet industry.

Pomegranate Festival is an annual cultural and artistic event held by Tehran Municipality to exhibit foodstuff and handicrafts related to pomegranate.
