Asia’s first snow volleyball tournament has been held at the Dizin International Ski Resort in the Alborz mountain range near Tehran.
Broadcasted live nationwide, the tournament got under way at the resort, at 2,650 meters above sea level, 10 teams competed to secure a final spot for Monday’s second tournament day.
After the group games were finished, teams from Poland and Austria secured their spots from Group A, while the Czech Republic and Russia made it in Group B.
Current Slovenian national beach volleyball champions Danijel Pokersnik and Tadej Bozenk agreed that the standard was very good: “It was a very strong international competition and the level was very high. It was a close finish and unfortunately we didn’t make it into the finals.”
The Iranian Volleyball Federation held the competition in association with Austrian agency Chaka2 who has the privilege to present the recent developments of Snow Volleyball.
Chaka 2 is the agency responsible for creating and organizing the Snow Volleyball Tour.
Snow volleyball first came to prominence in the town of Wagrain, Austria in 2008.
Snow Volleyball is an exciting variation of the sport which is rapidly attracting the attention of athletes, fans and sponsors alike and reinforces the global appeal of volleyball as a universally accessible sport that can be played in both summer and winter environments.
