Tehran Mayor and the chairman of the Parliament of Iran have celebrated the Arbor Day by inaugurating 1,000 hectares of foresting.
On March 5, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Ali Larijani, and many other Tehrani officials and citizens planted saplings to inaugurate Arbor Day as well as foresting at the southern side of the Alborz Range to expand Tehran’s so-called green belt.
City officials said that the planting will continue to the end of the Iranian calendar year to ease the air pollution issue of the city.
Last year Tehran Municipality planted five million trees to provide a clearer sky.
The municipality aims to build a green belt around Tehran over an area of 50,000 hectares, which if done correctly will reduce the pollution of the grey sky of the capital.
