Tehran Mayor Mohammad Ali Afshani called for setting up of “house of tribes” in Tehran in collaboration with Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
Afshani made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi.
He added that setting up of the house would pave the way for enhancement of solidarity among different tribes in Iran and they could live besides each other in peace and unity.
Tehran mayor reiterated that unfortunately, some did not understand the correct meaning of "citizen" and "capital", adding that, “Let’s not forget that Tehran is the capital; not the capital of the province or a city. Therefore, any person who is an Iranian has a share in it.”
“Tehran is the center of the diversity among the Iranian tribes, the diversity of Iranian culture and the diversity of religions. If we see national convergence in Tehran, the whole country is affected. Therefore, it is not the capital of Tehran and non-Tehrani,” he added.
“Once the house has been established, we would invite people from different ethnic group to hold their special cultural programs in that center,” he said.
By launching this center and developing it in the form of a park in the coming years, we will witness the familiarity of the citizens with the culture of different ethnic groups across the country,” he added.
