Tehran Mayor Mohammad Ali Afshani marked the beginning of 2018-19 school year by ringing the bell of a school in Tehran on Sunday.
Annually the opening of schools falls on the first day of the 7th Iranian calendar month of Mehr (September 23).
Addressing a local gathering in Baghcheban School in Tehran, Afshani said, “We are all responsible for the education of the children of this land, and I personally have the duty to be as close as possible to friends who work in the country’s educational field.”
Tehran mayor also condoled the bereaved families of those who attained martyrdom in a terrorist attack on a military parade in Ahvaz, Khuzestan province.
The terrorists attacking Iran's southern city of Ahvaz opened fire at soldiers and civilians with the aim of creating fear, a witness said following the attack on Saturday.
The death toll from the attack so far stands at 25, with more than 60 people wounded.
