According to Tehran SAMA, Head of Tehran Traffic Organization Jaafar Tashakori Hashemi, commenting on the new situation said: “The first phase of BRT Line 5, between Elm-o-Sanaat terminal and Argentine Square started its test trial last Wednesday but the welcome accorded by the people was so great that it practically started offering its services. At the beginning 50 buses started transportation of passengers and before the start of the calendar month of Mehr (Sept/Oct) 50 more two-cabin buses would be added to this line. If needed, more buses would become operational in future. Meanwhile, a new BRT bus line on Sadr-Niayesh Highway will be launched. We try to put the new bus line on Sadr Highway simultaneously with inauguration of the highway.”
He added that in addition to operation of BRT Line 5 simultaneously with the start of the new academic year, some 70 one-deck wagons would be added to Lines 2, 1 and 4 of Tehran Metro and 20 new double-deck wagons to Line 5 in order to increase the capacity of passenger transportation in Tehran. On this basis, it is predicted that with new buses and wagons at least 500 thousand passengers would be added to the capacity of public transportation in the capital city, he said. “We hope that by the end of the calendar month of Mehr, the middle section of Line 3 of the Metro, from Vali-e Asr (AS) intersection to Mosalla would become operational.”
According to the report, this year the highest volume of smart systems has been deployed in traffic management for the month of Mehr and video surveillance cameras have been increased to1000 to such an extent that there is no blind point in the city. Meanwhile, to control speed as well as intersections smart facilities have been applied.
