President of Tehran Municipality’s Communications and International Affairs Center said more than 500 projects and experiences of domestic and foreign urban management had been received and evaluated in the 4th "Tehran International Golden Adobe Award", which compared to the previous editions shows a significant increase.
The fourth edition of the Tehran International Golden Adobe Award will be held at the Milad Tower Convention Center on Saturday, November 2 coinciding with the World Cities Day. Gholamhossein Mohammadi, referring to the theme of this year's festival with the motto of creating "Smart, Resilient and Livable Cities for All" said this year the festival will be held on seven axes. "The event has endorsed nearly 200 domestic urban projects and experiences and more than 300 projects and experiences from other cities around the world to participate in the competition, most of which are in the fields of architecture, urban planning, cultural heritage and urban recreation. Initial judgments have been done and it is expected to pick three projects or experiences from each axis and a total of 21 projects or experiences will be selected.”
According to him, Tehran International Golden Adobe Award is being held on the occasion of World Cities Day in collaboration with international specialized organizations and representatives of the United Nations Human Settlements Program or UN HABITAT, the World Association of Major Metropolises (METROPOLIS), the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARPs) and the Asian Mayors Forum (AMF).
The President of the Communications and International Affairs Center of Tehran Municipality further stated: There are various tools in the world for increasing communication between countries, including public and non-governmental organizations that include municipalities and they maintain a more open approach than other organs. They do not have the complications that exist between governments, he noted.
Mohammadi said: Tehran Municipality is also cooperating with a number of cities around the world within “sisterhood” agreement and with others it has signed cooperation memorandums of understanding (MOUs). There are numerous capabilities that can be categorized and used in several dimensions. The most important is cultural and historical relations. Tourism and the use of cities' historical, cultural and natural heritage is one of the main capacities to bring cities to financial stability. These relationships are indispensable for introducing the capacity of cities to each other. In addition, these actions expand the various forms of relations and cooperation. For example, technology, and economic and commercial partnerships can be established between cities.
It must be noted that in this event the Smart Cities Committee Panel will be held with the participation of Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Minister of Information and Communication Technology; Mehmet Duman, Secretary General of UCLG MEWA; Mohammad Farjud, Director of ICT Organization and Project Manager of Tehran Smart City; Iraj Shahin Baher, the Mayor of Tabriz and Vice President of the Committee on Smart Cities and Urban Movement UCLG MEWA, Representative of the Asian Mayors Forum and Vice President of the Committee on Smart Cities and Urban Relocation UCLG MEWA, and Bahareh Arvin, Head of the Transparency and Smart City of Tehran Islamic Council.
