The mayor of Tehran, in an online meeting of the UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments), pointed to the need to improve management practices in the world and suggested that a coalition of world metropolitan municipalities be formed.
"The crisis has shown us all that the methods of political management in the world are flawed," said Pirooz Hanachi at the virtual meeting, hosted by Rome, Italy, referring to the Corona pandemic. "Politicians in different countries are not only unable to provide the minimum human needs for humanity, but are also unable to provide for the interests of their citizens."
Hanachi suggested that in the current context, it is necessary to form a coalition of the world's metropolitan municipalities and hold periodic meetings aimed at developing a joint cooperation program to expand the activities of local governments in influencing major international decisions.
The mayor of Tehran said: the formation of such coalitions requires the growth of its demand by the citizens of different countries. In fact, it is the citizens who must force their governments to avoid one-sidedness and to open new paths in the relations between the nation and the country.
Hanachi added: "As the mayor of Tehran, I have tried to establish extensive contacts with the mayors of different cities around the world, thereby encouraging the demand for strengthening social solidarity at the global level."
