Mayor of Tehran meets China’s Ambassador in Iran emphasizing the necessity of increase in co-operation with regard to lowering air pollution and subway development.
According to the correspondent of Shahr, Pirouz Hanachi, mayor of Tehran and Chang Hua, ambassador of China in Iran, met today afternoon, 7th July 2020, with the goal of increasing co-operation between Iran and China. In this meeting, Pirouz Hanachi portrayed the relation between Tehran and Beijing as one of long standing relation in collaboration and reciprocity, and added: Iran and China are two ancient civilizations in Asia and have a lot of cultural commonality, in such a way that in one of the World Heritage Sites of Iran in Soltaniyeh (a city in Iran), which is nearby Zanjan Province, there’s a relief map in direction of qibla in which the fusion of Islamic culture and far east is evident. Mayor of Tehran mentioned the vast collaboration in public transport and subway between the two cities and said: the majority of line and wagon equipment worked in Tehran’s subway are either imported as CKD from China or are constructed in Iran with the collaboration of Chinese consultants, and these collaborations are on-going. Last such measure in this respect was the contract for 630 wagons for Tehran’s subway which is to be delivered to Tehran as CKD, and a part of it to be built in Tehran’s wagon factory. According to Mr. Hanachi, Tehran’s subway is half way through, such that 240 km of lines are available for exploitation, and another 240 km is planned for future; but with the as-of-now existing infrastructure we are about two thousand wagon short in order to fill the gap between the trains as much as possible and also to exterminate the wagons which are expired or are in need of renovation. Mayor of Tehran asked the ambassador of China to put the subject of contract 630 on the work order and added: they even have a council to go to China and follow-up this matter. On the other hand, if the grounds for collaboration on this issue is reviewed by the Chinese, purchase of new wagons in exchange for oil is also a possibility.
Mr. Hanachi alluded to the Coronavirus pandemic, read a few versus from Sa’adi and explained: prior to the formal announcement of the outbreak of this virus, Tehran’s municipality, with the aim of sympathizing with the people of Wuhan, carried out a video mapping on Azadi tower which was a humane move and advised by culture and religion.
Beijing has continuously opposed the unlawful sanctions of the U.S.
Chang Hua, ambassador of China in Iran, described Tehran as an ancient and innovative city with modern infrastructures and said: the relation between Iran and china are old and historical. In 2015, a sisterhood document was signed between Tehran and Beijing. He expressed that after that agreement Tehran became the fifth friend-city of Beijing, and alluded to the increase of friendship and relations among the two cities for the advancement of reciprocal collaborations. Ambassador of China in Iran continued: after the outbreak of Coronavirus, the relations of China and Iran saw an increase and they continuously supported each other in such a way that in the February of the current year, Tehran’s municipality carried out a video mapping of the Azadi tower for their Chinese friends which is very valuable for the Chinese people. After the outbreak of Coronavirus in Tehran, local government (Municipality) of Beijing sent various shipping to Tehran, and one of the local government managers of the Beijing wrote a letter to the mayor of Tehran. Chang Hua, expressing that there is also a Chinese poem about sympathy and helping others which is recently recited more than ever, said: all humans must help each other with regard to air pollution, and different countries can’t solve this problem on their own.
