The ceremony of planting tree of peace and friendship seedling in the Week of Natural Resources was held with the presence of Pirooz Hanachi, Mayor of Tehran, Ali Mohammad Mokhtari, Managing Director of the Parks and Green Space Organization of Tehran Municipality, Arash Milani, Member of Tehran City Council, Manaf Hashemi , Deputy Minister of Transportation and Traffic of Tehran Municipality, Ambassadors of European and Asian countries, and UN Representative in Tehran, mayors of districts and Managing Directors of municipal organizations and companies.
Ali Mohammad Mokhtari, Managing Director of Tehran Parks and Green Space Organization, in the presence of representatives of 50 countries who attended the ceremony at the invitation of the Center of Communication and International Affairs of Tehran Municipality, said: Tehran has achieved many successes in developing green space in the region and from the beginning of Islamic Revolution, 1979, and then 75 parks in Tehran have increased to 2209 parks. By pointing out that 2937 hectares of green space has increased to 43752 hectares, he also said: the water supply network and the use of resistant plant species for the city of Tehran has been done with great obsession.
Mokhtari also said that the threat of sanctions has become an opportunity: Tehran is in a critical stage of its life and its resources must be preserved and stabilized. In this regard, Tehran Municipality with the aim of realizing the concept of sustainable development, considers the expansion of green space as a suitable urban solution.
In the following, Negar Gerami, UN Representative, Ambassador and Coordinator in Iran, also said that planting trees is one of the best things to do to save lives.Gerami, referring to the UN models for the world in 2020, said that this year has been introduced by the United Nations to breathe the earth and added: "Corona has sacrificed the lives of people in the world and new ways of life must be created all over the world. Planting a tree can help humans in this direction.”
Salah Zawawi, the Palestinian ambassador to Iran, also thanked the Tehran municipality for the annual tree planting of peace and friendship.
Following this ceremony, the ambassadors of the countries planted olive trees as a symbol of peace and friendship with the signs of their countries by attending in the lands of Abbasabad, Tehran.
