The international webinar of "Perspectives and Challenges in Urban Reconstruction" was held by Tehran’s municipality - the Center for Communication and International Affairs and the Renovation Organization - in collaboration with the World Metropolis Organization on April 7th.
Along with the growth of urbanization, about 56 percent of the world's population live in cities, and slums are becoming a new place for them to settle. Correspondingly, complex economic-physical changes in urban areas have caused the erosion of some urban areas around the world, especially in less developed countries. And that is the reason behind the need of cities for interventions in urban regeneration programs.
Considering the membership of 1400 cities in the World Metropolis Organization (Metropolis) and the need for cooperation in the form of thematic networks to share and benefit from superior experiences, Tehran Municipality held its first webinar on "Perspectives and Challenges in Urban Reconstruction" in collaboration with Metropolis.
Pirooz Hanachi, the Mayor of Tehran, was appointed as the vice president of the metropolis some time ago. In line with the World Metropolis Organization policies in assigning each issue to a vice president, urban regeneration has been assigned to Tehran. The Secretary General of Metropolis, the Mayors of Shiraz and the Mayor of Tehran were present in this webinar.
The study of "Perspectives and Challenges in Urban Regeneration", as well as being in charge of the issue, is the starting point of the actions that Tehran Municipality will take in the field of urban regeneration in the metropolis.
