Municipality of Tehran Attends “Fifth International Conference on Learning Cities”

  2021 November 13 Saturday:

The Deputy International Affairs of the Municipality of Tehran participated in the Fifth International Conference on Learning Cities held on 27 to 30 October 2021 with a focus on building healthy and resilient cities through learning.

The objective of holding this conference was to examine success stories and challenges that cities experience in their approaches to integrate stakeholders to reach the goals of lifelong learning and health strategies.

Dr. Hamidreza Gholamzadeh, International Affairs Deputy of the Municipality of Tehran, who had attended the meeting emphasized that The municipality of Tehran believes that the learning process is not necessarily a one-way and predefined process while considering various types of education and efforts to move towards transforming Tehran into a learning city.

Rather, in this way, interactive learning obtained from citizen participation accelerates and deepens the above process.

He continued, the municipality of Tehran established centers called “Faramuz“ for the first time in the country. These centers aim to indirectly teach life skills to children of 6 to 12 years old. This training prevents high-risk behaviors and reduces social harm in the future. The municipality is trying to play its part in the slogan realization "Healthy citizen, healthy family, healthy neighborhood and healthy city in light of social values."

Learning behavioral skills enables children and adolescents to acquire knowledge, their attitudes, and values, and behavioral skills meaning that every child, along with learning reading and writing, acquires skills that help them to first gain a proper understanding of themselves and then to connect well with people and the surrounding environment.

This act leads to resolving social issues and conflicts in the future. Children and young people who possess these skills will be far more honest, law-abiding, and better citizens, which results in having a healthier and safer city.

To implement such learning, Tehran Municipality has taken steps to include all citizens, groups and, social strata, regardless of social structure and differences.

According to this policy, all people should be "learning citizens" to ultimately earn much better sustainable achievements through interaction, participation, and involvement of people in the learning process.

In the end, Deputy of International Affairs of Tehran Municipality stated: much important point in this regard is the existence of interaction and cooperation between cities and local governments of the world, regardless of political and biased tendencies to create a healthy city for all people in the world away from discrimination, oppression, and social classification of countries.
